A marvellous example of how to present factual information in a fresh and accessible way. The balance of text to illustration is just right, and the book is full of fascinating detail. There is information about women pirates, how pirates make themselves even more ferocious (with lighted fuses in their hair), a "Who's Who" of Jolly Rogers and lots more to absorb any reader. I was hooked.

These small books are packed with information, and are for abler readers. Beginning with the premise that the reader is applying for the relevant job, the would-be applicant is given a comprehensive job specification. It is a clever idea and is well executed. The illustrations dovetail with the text and are informative in their own right.
