The Stratford-Salariya Picture Book Prize 2017 Shortlist

After sifting through the many wonderful entries for the Stratford-Upon-Avon Literary Festival and Salariya Book Company Picture Book Prize 2017, the judges have finally whittled them down to a shortlist of 10 titles. The overall standard was very high, so it was a real struggle deciding on the final shortlist. Tea was drunk, chins were scratched, tears were shed, furniture was smashed (not really) - but finally an agreement was reached, and most of the Salariya office staff are still speaking to one another.

Congratulations to the following very talented people, who made the shortlist:

Rosie Alabaster
Josephine Birch
Jon Dunleavy
Rosie Eve
Emma Graham
Emily Jones and Victoria Richards
Rachel Quarry
Holly Smith
Camille Whitcher
Chris Young

And thank you to all of the other many authors and illustrators who sent in their work. We wish we could shortlist all of you - but that would somewhat defeat the purpose of a shortlist!

The judges - David Salariya, Founder and MD of The Salariya Book Company; Annie Ashworth, Director of The Stratford Literary Festival; award winning author/illustrators Nick Butterworth and Sarah McIntyre; children’s literary agent Jodie Hodges of United Agents; Tereze Brikmane, manager of the multi-award-winning Tales on Moon Lane Bookshop; and Ashley King, illustrator and bookseller at Waterstones - will now begin the even more arduous process of picking an overall winner, to be announced in February 2017. Wish us luck!
